The Greek Atomic Energy Commission, as a partner in the EC-funded project entitled "Study on European Population Doses from Medical Exposure" (Dose Datamed 2), organizes in Athens, from 24 to 26 April 2012, workshop on European Population Doses from Medical Exposure.

The Greek Atomic Energy Commission, the national competent authority for radiation protection and nuclear safety, submitted two years ago to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) a request for an international peer review. The review, known as Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS), will focus on the radiation protection and nuclear safety national regulatory framework and its implementation.

After the successful completion of the Education and Training Appraisal (EduTA) mission to the Greek Atomic Energy Commission (EEAE) in 2008, EEAE was recognized as the IAEA’s Regional Training Center in Europe for Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety. A Long Term Agreement between the Government of the Hellenic Republic and the IAEA, to support EEAE as a Regional Training Centre in Europe for Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety was signed on July 11, 2011. This agreement is now on the procedure of its ratification by the parliament of the Hellenic Republic.

The MEDRAPET project is currently conducting an EU-wide study to establish the status in the member states regarding medical radiation protection education and training. 
Results of this study are going to be discussed during the MEDRAPET Workshop. Τhe outcomes will form the basis for a European Guidance on radiation protection education 
and training of medical professionals.
