From 2000 to 2015, EEAE or authorized external contractors conducted more than 11,500 in situ inspections and measurements at the environment of antennas stations providing telecommunication services throughout Greece. During such period, 90 cases were identified in which the rates for safe exposure to HF electromagnetic radiation at areas where general public may freely and possibly access were exceeded.
Most of them (74) concern places which are antennas parks, whilst the other 16 cases concern places in proximity to mobile telephony base stations. For each such case, EEAE acted rapidly and in compliance with the applicable legislation, in order to ensure that all required measures for the safety of the general public are taken – something which may be asserted through new in situ measurements by EEAE personnel.
At the same time, EEAE conducted in situ measurements of the electric and magnetic fields generated from all types of power lines, substations and configurations of the electric power transmission and distribution systems in Greece. Among 550 audits through the period 2004-2015, there were 6 cases in which the safety exposure limits were exceeded, concerning only the electric field intensity measurements. For each case, EEAE acted rapidly and in compliance with the legislation, in order to ensure that all required measures for the safety of the general public are taken.
