Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a widely used medical imaging examination based on the phenomenon of magnetic resonance. During an MRI scan, no ionising radiation is used, as is the case with, for example, computed tomography (CT), but rather static magnetic and electromagnetic fields that fall within the non-ionising radiation spectrum.

Licensing for the use of magnetic resonance medical imaging systems has been mandatory in our country since the end of 2015. The licensing procedure, as well as the requirements regarding protection against non-ionising radiation, are set out in Ministerial Decision P/112/363/13 November 2015 (Government Gazette 2488/B/18 November 2015).

The fees for the licensing of MRI laboratories are set out in point (e) of paragraph A of the schedule of fees for services provided by the Hellenic Health Technology Assessment Agency (EEAE) (you can view here for the table of charges).

Supporting documents for the licensing of MRI laboratories may be submitted by email to: adeies@eeae.gr. The documents submitted must be digitally signed.

See the protocols for magnetic resonance imaging systems (2013).
